WHAT COULD ANNIE KNOW?

What if Annie had to pass standardized tests today? What could she know? Would there be any advantages to having lived a life circumnavigating the globe at terrible times for both she and the whales? On this page you will find test questions about just one of the bedtime stories that Annie told her granddaughters and that they told me. In this story, her father had to throw a cask of opals into the sea to keep his crew from mutinying. The men believed the opals were unlucky and would send them to their doom. This was Amos’ and Louise’s last trip, and this cask was bought with all his retirement savings. The family lost hope of a peaceful retirement, and had to work for many years after they left the sea. Around a decade later, I think, Annie and her husband lost all their money in a market crash, he died of the flu, and Annie and her children went home to live with her parents in Maine. It is clear there are many test questions she might find familiar. I think she would have had a pretty good shot at answering them too.
